Drywall Repair

Whether it's unsightly cracks, dents, or water damage, fixing these issues promptly not only revives your walls but also prevents more costly repairs down the road.

When there are cracks, dents, holes, or water damage in your drywall, it's important that you remedy them asap, because if not, they can easily worsen to more costly drywall repairs.

Cracks can spread, holes can become bigger, and water damage can spread internally pretty fast, leading to rot and mold.

These can all lead to serious structural damage, which is obviously really bad news.

As such, damaged drywall needs to be repaired as soon as possible. Otherwise, you run the risk of higher drywall repair costs and may even end up needing to call in professionals for other issues like mold or pest infestations.

If you're considering repairing your own drywall, small nail holes are quite manageable and can usually be handled easily by homeowners.

However, if it's anything larger than that and for other repairs, i.e. cracks, holes, and water damage, it's best to engage drywall repair contractors.

The reason for this is that repairing drywall for larger issues can be quite tricky. Patching drywall isn't as simple as just slapping a new patch over the problem area.

Additional steps like cutting out the problem area, installing backing, taping, and so on, will be required depending on the type of damage. Each of these steps requires specialized tools and practice to be able to perform properly.

Without the right tools or the experience and skill to carry out each step successfully, you'll very likely end up with clearly visible bumps, seams, or mismatched paint, all of which would make your drywall look even worse than before.

For example, if you're performing drywall patch repair to patch up a hole, you need to use a few different tools to cut out the hole, then a few different tools for the backing, and then some tools for the tape, and some more tools for the joint compound.

So you’re looking at getting these tools:

  • Drywall saw
  • Tape measure
  • Power drill
  • Drywall screws
  • Drywall tape
  • Taping knife
  • Mud pan
  • Sanding sponge

Similarly, if it’s drywall crack repair, there are also a number of steps. You need to cut out the areas with cracks, put drywall tape over the hole that you just created, and then smooth joint compound over the tape.

Once again, you’re going to need a bunch of tools to get this done:

  • Utility knife
  • Drywall tape
  • Taping knife
  • Mud pan
  • Sanding sponge

And there’s no guarantee of success. If you have zero experience with feathering joint compound or don’t have enough practice, there’s a very good chance that you’re going to spread it unevenly, leaving visible bumps, ridges, or seams.

As we mentioned earlier, a lot of times, when homeowners try to DIY more complex drywall repairs, the result is usually a very unsightly finished drywall repair.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a crack, a hole, or ceiling drywall repair that you’re trying to DIY. Trying to repair drywall on your own is almost guaranteed not to go well for anything larger than a few small holes.

In fact, if it’s drywall ceiling repair that you’re trying to perform, not only is it harder, but also more dangerous.

While engaging professional drywall repair services is of course going to take a larger chunk out of your pocket, it really isn’t a matter of choice. Drywall repair just isn’t one of those projects that you can DIY, even if you have the right tools, at least not if you want a smooth finish.

It’s a necessary cost, and there’s just no way around it. Remember though, that it’s not just the labor you’re paying for.

When you hire a drywall repair company, you won’t have to pay for the joint compound, the primer, and the various tools that are needed for each part of the repair. Drywall repair companies will also be purchasing their materials in bulk, which means they have access to better prices that they can then pass on to you.

You’re also saving yourself a ton of time, which you could spend on much more productive things than ruining your drywall by trying to fix it on your own.

So when you consider how much time and effort you’re saving yourself, along with the cost of the tools and materials, and the fact that you’ll actually have a properly done drywall repair, it should be quite apparent that drywall repair services are well worth the investment.
